Looking After Your Power Chair or Scooter.

Autumn usually brings a lot of fine and bright days, enabling mobility scooter owners the freedom to get out and about and enjoy the autumn air and colours. But it is especially important at this time of year to pay particular attention to basic care and maintenance to keep your vehicles in good working order.

Remember B.T.L (Batteries, Tyres, Lights) checking these daily will help you avoid future problems and costly maintenance. Always make sure that you put your scooters battery on charge overnight and that all tyres are suitably inflated and undamaged. If your mobility scooter has them check the lights and indicators are working correctly.

These simple checks won’t take you more than five minutes, but could save you time money and inconvenience later. Always remember If you’re unsure ask a friend or relative as we believe that piece of mind is priceless.

Here at Gravelles Mobility and lifestyle we have gathered together a few suggestions that may help you get more out of your Mobility scooter and improve your independence.

· Think of your route, plan it and keep it short, within the maximum distance your scooter can travel from your home and back again.

· Always keep your scooter clean and dry, keep it covered with a plastic sheet or scooter cover.

· Although not always practical, you scooter will travel further if you go on smooth level ground, such as tarmac rather than grass or chippings.

· Always keep your mobility scooter on charge even when you are not using it, this keeps the battery alive and your scooter ready to go when you are.

· Check your scooter manual to see when it needs its next service.

· At this time of year make sure that you are dressed warmly, wear a rain coat and have some form of high visibility clothing while on your scooter. but most of all have fun and enjoy the autumn air.

Happy travels.
